When I was surfing regular I could do a whole category of stuff: carves, pumping down the line, cutbacks, etc. Now I've looked for information on this kind of situation and basically find nothing, so here's my theory. Skateboarding, on the other hand, allows for WAAAAAY more time to actually practice. When you catch a wave, you are more focused on balance, navigating the wave, and not messing up your extremely rare and valuable opportunity to practice "surfing". What i mean by this is that you have such a short amount of actual time surfing vs sitting in the water waiting for waves. The problem is that when you surf you are basically in survival mode until you log enough water time.

This enables you to do all the basic stuff surfing requires. It is the rational choice we unknowingly make because the majority of people ARE regular and being right footed, we have MUCH better control over the board. Basically, because surfing is such a back footed sport, the majority of people assume they are regular ( right foot in back). If you are, then you are in the same situation I was going through 2-3 years ago. I'm going to assume you are right footed. (Went from regular to goofy and it sucked, but it was worth it.) I find this stuff fascinating as I went through it 2 years ago. Hit me up with your results, I am genuinely interested to see what you find out. And it takes a HUGE amount of time to learn a new stance. It is very easy to progress so far into your switch stance that you end up thinking it's your natural stance. There is very little information on stance and footedness, but this is what I can tell you. It is one of the surefire ways to figure out your stance. I am telling you this because: this is how you determine if you are goofy, regular, or extremely rare and you are ambipodrous. Even if you have never skated regular stance before, you might find out that tic tacking is completely effortless, and tic tacking goofy is virtually not possible even though you can carve effortlessly. You will find that you are MUCH better at doing this in one stance. Try doing this with both stances, goofy and regular. Do you know what Tic tacking is? IF not, it is when you lift the skateboard up by putting pressure on your back foot and then you lean one direction and put the board in a new place depending on where you shift your weight.
